Already 85% delivery of 2021 Brussels V conference pledges to Syrian people

The European Commission has published a report on the delivery of the pledges made at the fifth Brussels conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region”, held on 30 March 2021. This year’s conference, coinciding with the tenth commemoration of the Syrian war, continued to demonstrate donors’ continued commitment to address the consequences of the Syrian crisis by raising EUR 11.2 billion in grants and loans.

The report shows that as of June 2021, donors had already provided EUR 3.1 billion in grants for 2021 for Syria and the region, representing 85% of the conference pledge. They had also made available EUR 1.1 billion (63% of their pledged grants) for 2022. For loans for 2021 and beyond, EUR 4.7 billion had already been available by donors and International Financial Institutions, representing 80% of the total conference pledge.

The EU and its Member States remain the most significant contributor to the Syria crisis response and pledged together a total of EUR 2.1 billion (USD 2.5 billion) in grants for 2021, or 57% of the total grant pledge for 2021 made at the Brussels V conference. 80% of that pledge had already been delivered by June 2021.
