The College of Commissioners will meet today in Strasbourg to discuss the Joint Communication by the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to the European Parliament and the Council proposing an EU Strategy for Syria. As we mark the 6th year into the Syrian conflict, the situation has evolved in Syria and EU role has been enhanced to face new realities and the different stage of the conflict. The proposed EU strategy will aim to define how the European Union can play a stronger role on Syria, in line with what President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, said in his 2016 State of the Union address: "I call today for a European Strategy for Syria. So that Europe can help rebuild a peaceful Syrian nation and a pluralistic, tolerant civil society in Syria." A press conference and read-out of today's College meeting by High Representative / Vice-President Mogherini will take place in Strasbourg at 15:30. Follow live via EbS.
