Commission co-hosts international conference on restoring justice for Ukraine in The Hague

Today, the Commission is co-hosting an international conference titled ‘Restoring Justice for Ukraine’ in The Hague, together with the Netherlands and Ukraine.

The event will gather foreign and justice ministers from participating countries, as well as representatives of the International Criminal Court, the Council of Europe, the Register of Damage for Ukraine, Eurojust, and Ukrainian non-governmental organisations. King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, and Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will also participate via video.

The conference testifies for the participants’ continued commitment to ensure accountability for the international crimes committed in Ukraine, facilitate their investigation and prosecution, including for the crime of aggression, and lay the groundwork for compensation for damages. During the conference, a ministerial meeting of the Dialogue Group will take place as well as the fourth meeting of the Conference of Participants of the Register of Damages, counting with the announcement of the first submission of claims.

Following the first Ukraine Accountability Conference co-hosted by the Commission in 2022, this event is an occasion to take stock of progress, and reiterate international commitment to ensure justice for the atrocities committed in Ukraine.
