Commissioner Johansson travels to Poland to discuss support for people fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, travels today to Poland to take stock of the situation of large displacement the country is facing and discuss how the European Union and Member States can continue to support Poland. The Commissioner will meet the Secretary of State, Paweł Szefernaker and Undersecretary of State, Bartosz Grodecki. The discussion will focus on the implementation of the 10-Point Plan for a stronger European coordination on welcoming people fleeing the war against Ukraine, in particular, the EU support to Poland as regards the efforts in terms of registration, the support to key transit centers, as well as plans to fight against trafficking and provide protection to vulnerable population. They will also discuss how to continue supporting safe accommodation for refugees and the planning for the coming months. As part of the mission, the Commissioner will also visit a transit centre at the railway station Dworzec Wschodni, where she will meet with the Deputy Mayor of Warsaw, Michał Olszewski and the NGOs active in the transit center, they will discuss the role of the transport hubs in providing protection to those fleeing the Russian invasion and the key role of NGOs and Local Authorities. In addition, Commissioner Johansson will meet with the representatives of the number of Polish NGOs at the premises of the EU Representation.
