Further deliveries of medical equipment such as protective face masks, disinfectant and other items are currently being dispatched to countries that have sought assistance via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The EU is helping coordinate the delivery of medical ventilators offered by Denmark to Italy. Lithuania will receive FFP2 masks from the rescEU reserve of medical equipment, fully financed from the EU budget. In addition, the EU is financing the delivery of disinfectant, blankets and bedlinen to North Macedonia, Montenegro and Georgia donated by Estonia via the Mechanism. Slovakia also addedambulances to their offer to Ukraine under the Mechanism earlier this week. Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management, said: “The rescEU reserve of medical equipment continues to prove its added value as we are sending further quality checked protective masks to Lithuania. In addition, Estonia, Slovakia and Denmark are mobilising further support via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to other countries. European countries helping one another is what our Union is all about.” The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has already coordinated the delivery of assistance to 13 countries during this pandemic.
