The European Commission is organising a conference in Teheran on 8-11 May 2017 to spearhead efforts to boost trade between Iran and the EU. The conference brings together experts from the European Commission (Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety) and EU Member States, and some forty Iranian veterinary officials and economic operators. The goal is to offer a complete training on the issuance of EU export certificates through the TRAde Control and Expert System (TRACES), in order to improve the traceability of consignments and facilitate border controls. The conference is a practical step in the EU's engagement with Iran: exchanging expertise amongst peers and at grass root level will be crucial to foster mutual trust and continue to build a constructive working relationship.

The conference is funded through the EU Partnership Instrument, which supports the external dimension of EU policies and promotes EU and mutual interests abroad, and organised by the EU's Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) Instrument. Over forty similar TAIEX activities on various topics will be implemented in the course of 2017 in the Middle East, Asia/Pacific and the Americas.
