Meet the Neighbours of the Neighbours during COVID-19 time

On Europe Day, tomorrow 9 May, the EU is launching the initiative “Meet the Neighbours of the Neighbours during COVID-19 time”.

During the current challenging period of lockdown, the initiative aims at giving students and youth from Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean region the opportunity to discover different cultures from their homes, through a free access - on the streaming platform Festival Scope - to films from Europe, the Southern Neighbourhood, the Western Balkans and Africa.

From 9 May to 4 June, the audience will be able to watch selected 40 films with changing titles every week. To encourage an innovative form of intercultural dialogue, around 20 European films will be accessible in Africa and the Mediterranean, while another 20 African and Mediterranean films will be accessible in Europe and the Balkans. A special screening is foreseen for Africa Day on 25 May.

This initiative was conceived thanks to a collaboration with the ‘European Film Festival’ EU programme, the LUX prize of the European Parliament and the Cineteca of Bologna.
