Georgia’s Batumi International Conference – Celebrating 10 years of Eastern Partnership

Yesterday 11 July the annual Batumi “Georgia’s European Way” Conference took place celebrating 10 years of the Eastern Partnership. The event brought together leaders from both EU member states and the 6 Eastern Partner countries, civil society representatives, business leaders, young people and journalists from across the region.

In his opening remarks, European Council President Donald Tusk, underlined achievements made in this time and stressed that further progress needs to be based on unity and cooperation. Full text of the speech can be found here. During the event, President Tusk also took the time to meet with a group of Young European Ambassadors.

Batumi

In the sidelines of the conference, DG NEAR Director Lawrence Meredith, signed the first ever EU support programme on security sector reform for Georgia, worth €28 million. The programme will support the Georgian government in the fight against crime and corruption; hybrid and emerging threats; border management; civil protection and crisis management; and oversight of the security sector.
