Today, the European Commission’s Deputy Director General for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations and Head of the Support Group for Ukraine (SGUA) Katarína Mathernová and Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna co-chaired the first meeting of focused dialogue on the European Green Deal and Ukraine’s Green Transition.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans had launched this focused dialogue in February. A wide range of experts on both sides took actively part in the constructive dialogue.
During the meeting, the participants discussed concrete steps for enhanced cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, including long term strategy towards Ukraine’s climate neutrality, climate governance architecture and the update of the Nationally Determined Contribution, Green Transition Financing, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the Energy Efficiency Fund, hydrogen technologies, the “just transition” of coal regions, European Industry Alliances and Ukraine’s forestry strategy.
Today’s discussion highlighted both parties’ willingness to further advance dialogue on Ukraine’s Green Transition and the European Green Deal and to enlarge its scope to new areas of cooperation in subsequent meetings taking place quarterly from now on.
