Today, President von der Leyen will co-chair the Tripartite Social Summit videoconference together with President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The Commission will also be represented by Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis and Commissioner Schmit. The topic of this summit is ‘A united tripartite response to the social and economic impact of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine'. Discussions will focus on three topics. First, ensuring investment, growth and employment in Europe, while addressing the impact of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine on energy prices, the economy and jobs. Second, ensuring a successful green transition for European workers and enterprises in this new context. Finally, participants will discuss the role of social dialogue in improving working conditions, the functioning of European labour markets and skills training post-COVID-19. The Tripartite Social Summit takes place twice a year ahead of European Council meetings. It is co-chaired by the Presidents of the European Council and the Commission and attended by the Head of State or Government representing the Presidency of the Council of the EU. It is an opportunity for a constructive exchange of views between the leaders of the European institutions with the leaders of European social partners and national employee and employer organisations of the current and upcoming Presidency countries (France, Czechia and Sweden), and the Employment and Social Affairs Ministers of these Presidency countries. A press release will be published in the evening following the summit.
