Sixty-two Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, as well as from EU member states, are gathering in Brussels this week to learn about the EU, its values and structures. Taking place between 19 and 20 July, the ‘Meet-Up’ is organised by the ‘EU NEIGHBOURS east’ project, with the support from the European Commission and the European External Action Service.

The visit aims to stimulate engagement between young people through people-to-people contact, contributing to a better understanding of the European Union and its relations with its Eastern Neighbours. The young people will take part in a series of activities, including visits to EU institutions and meetings with senior EU officials.

The main objectives of the Young European Ambassadors’ Meet-Up are to:

  • Enhance understanding of the European Union’s values, history and structures
  • Get involved in discussions on the future of the Eastern Partnership and the areas that should be considered priorities in cooperation
  • Network with the other Young European Ambassadors
  • Explore how the EU institutions work

The EU funded ‘EU NEIGHBOURS east’ project places strong emphasis on engaging young people as part of its outreach work. For this reason, the project launched the ‘Young European Neighbours’ (YEN) network and the ‘Young European Ambassadors’ (YEAs) initiative in June 2016, which aims at fostering cooperation and sustainable links between young people and youth organisations from EU Member States and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The YEAs are organising dialogue-driven activities in their countries, such as visits to schools and universities, participation in forums and fairs, as well as are exchanging ideas, experience and information online.
