Commissioner Várhelyi travels to the Middle East to meet the Israeli and Palestinian leadership, reps of the Jerusalem-based Christian churches and visit Yad Vashem

The Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, will visit Jerusalem, Ramallah and Tel Aviv this week, from Tuesday, 28 May to Thursday, 30 May.

Commissioner Várhelyi is scheduled to meet the President of Israel, Issac Herzog, the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Foreign Minister Israel Katz, and the Minister of Defence, Yoav Gallant, in Israel.

The Commissioner will also visit the Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remebrance Center.

In Ramallah, Commissioner Várhelyi is scheduled to meet the members of the newly appointed Government of Palestine, in particular the Minister of Finance Omar Al Bitar, the Minister of Planning and Cooperation Wael Zakout, and the Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) Executive Committee, Hussein Al Sheikh.

Furthermore, the Commissioner will also have a meeting with representatives of the Jerusalem-based Christian churches during his visit.

Finally, he is scheduled to meet representatives from the office of the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, WHO and WFP.
