EU–Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial meeting

On Monday 29 November, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President Josep Borrell will co-chair the 6th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) together with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi. Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi will also participate in the Forum, which will take place back-to-back with the EU–Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial meeting in Barcelona. Both meetings take place against the backdrop of the celebrations of the first ever Day of the Mediterranean. The 6th UfM Regional Forum will bring together Foreign Ministers of the 42 UfM Member States. Discussions will focus on progress made in the five priority areas agreed last year during the 5th UfM Regional Forum: environmental and climate action, sustainable and inclusive economic and human development, social inclusiveness and equality, digital transformation, and civil protection. High Representative Borrell will give an opening speech at 9:00 am and participate in the joint press conference at 12:30 pm to conclude the Forum. Both events will be broadcasted on EbS. In parallel to the 6th UfM Regional Forum, a side event on Regional Integration ‘From Policy Recommendation to Implementation' will also take place. In the afternoon, High Representative Borrell will chair the third EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial meeting hosted by Spain, with Commissioner Várhelyi also delivering opening remarks. The ministerial will be an opportunity to discuss how to take forward cooperation in light of the Renewed Partnership with the Southern Neighbourhood – A New Agenda for the Mediterranean, adopted in February, as well as the implementation of the Economic and Investment Plan for the region, to boost job creation, combat climate change and promote a green and digital transition. A press release will be issued afterwards.
